Wiring thermostat to Worcester 9.24

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.28 PM

Hi, I need to connect a Hive Active Heating thermostat to a Worcester 9.24 Electric Combi Boiler which has no thermostat fitted at present. I have 4 core flex which I believe I need to wire to the thermostat as below using this diagram https://i.imgur.com/dkyJ2U6.png N = Blue L = Brown 3 = Grey Plus a loop of Brown from L to 1 to connect Common However I'm unclear on which colour cable is then to be connected to terminals marked 2, 3 and N1 on the boiler after removing the link between 2 and 3 (see Fig 8 of manual here http://library.plumbase.co.uk/flipbooks/RE/wor924bfe_23823_t/mobile/index.html#p=24). I have a fair idea but don't want to make assumptions so have searched online but can't find any examples of anyone wiring a thermostat to this boiler so any help greatly appreciated. Am I correct in thinking that on the Worcester Boiler, 2 is Live (Brown), 3 is Switchlive (Grey) and N1 is Neutral (Blue)? Thanks Rhys

"Am I correct in thinking that on the Worcester Boiler, 2 is Live (Brown), 3 is Switchlive (Grey) and N1 is Neutral (Blue)?" Yes, what you have said is correct. I have checked over the manuals. However, it is worth noting that according to how you have done it, your power supply for your thermostat is from the boiler via PCB. If there is a fault in thermostat wiring, the internal fuse for the boiler will blow, or perhaps the the PCB itself might become damaged. For this reason, I normally supply the thermostat from the incoming supply of the boiler itself, rather than from the PCB of the boiler. I hope this helps.

4 core would be grey black brown and earth. Grey is neutral, Brown is Live, Black is switched, Earth is Earth.

The thermostat should be wired from the fused side of the Spur along with the boiler.

You can actually now purchase an add on for the Worcester which allows the nest to communicate wirelessly with the boiler
