wood clad room extension with poor insulation
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.28 PM
How best to insulate a room that has been extended into a back garden and is made of a wood clad structure, with very limited insulation? This room get's particularly cold during winter and even with the room being heated, ventilated and with a de-humidifer, mould in the room is persisting. Many thanks in advance

Hi, heating a poorly insulated room will normally always cause mould and dampness to happen, you’re best bet is to insulate as much as possible .walls, ceilings, and floors. You can use insulated plasterboard on walls and ceiling’s and take up existing flooring and lay solid board insulation directly to floor relay existing flooring, I know it’s not going to be cheap but it’s the only way to stop the cold and dampness. Good luck

I would suggest looking at options for external wall insulation

there is the possibility of using a foil space blanket which is only a few MM thick but equivalent to 100mm of ridged insulation. This could be either put on inside and clad over or put externally and also clad over.

Yes get the boards off the floor and install rock wool 100mm sheets and same on walls it’ll change the room completely in terms of warmth, also on walls insulated plaster board.
Hope this helps
