Dealing with rotten sections of wooden georgian windows. I think i have 3 options, is this correct? (see add info)

1) dig out rotten wood then fill. 2) splice rotten section out, replace section using wood & 2part filler, sand then paint. 3) completely remove section affected (inc good wood) and replace, before treating and painting. I have 2 clients who need me to do this work and I want to make sure i do the job properly. Thank you very much for any advice given.

The whole thing depends on extent of deterioration, and of course money! Splicing in little pieces can be time consuming and not effective in long term. If cost is a problem, the old wood hardener and filler can be very effective and economical, and will give a few more years of life. But if all looks a bit scruffy then replace whole sections. That will look best but cost more.
