Should I accept discoloured grout in my new wet room?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.28 PM

We have recently had a new wet room installed by a disabled bathroom specialist company. The wall tiles are white, with white grout. Unfortunately when the electrician (a sub contractor) completed his jobs much of the white grout was left discoloured, with some black specks in it. Grout cleaner has had little effect. I have mentioned the situation to the company on two separate occasions. The first time a plastic cover was applied to the tiled shelf, (which was most affected). The second time I received no response. Should I pay the requested amount and accept the wet room as it is or should I expect the situation to be rectified?

The electrician company should amend the problem.

I wouldn’t pay until you are 100% happy with the job with no problems with it.

Dis coloured usually is grout depths, drying time or a the worst wrong grout colour/make. In your case this is neglect on behalf of the electrician which is a contractor to the company who took on the whole job DO NOT PAY they should be fully insured or be willing to correct the problem. Seek Trading Standards within your county take photos and above all DONT give in.

If the Tiler hired the electrician as a sub contractor whilst the job was ongoing , the end result on leaving a finished job lands on the Tilers shoulders being the main contractor, he should regrout it to an acceptable finish .
