Hi all,
So whilst the front of my corner semi-detached house has new fencing done, the back garden (my side responsibility) that runs to the corner of my property needs completely new fencing down (gravel boards etc) to match the front of the house. We are thinking of bringing the back fence (which needs removing as damaged) forward towards the front of the house, which will give us a bigger back garden and a smaller front garden, although the front is still adequate enough to get a few cars on it.
Currently the front and back gardens need to be laid, as they are just a combination of concrete, grass, old patio etc. We were thinking of a cheap option for the front, like gravelling it, and the back garden a mixture of decking and artificial grass.
I guess my question is, should I get the fencing done first before getting quotes for the rest of the works, or should I get a quote to get it all done in one go, I.E - will it be cheaper to get it all done in one go, or will it be cheaper to get fencers in, sort the borders out and then landscapers in to sort the front and back gardens out?
Hoping I've made sense! Cheers as always guys!
JB
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?
Any landscape gardener worth there salt should be able to undertake all the work you require, so would get a price for having all the works done as a package, but get a quote per item, for example price for fencing, price for any patio work so on & so forth
I would get a package price if you looking to save money. If jobs are priced individually it can lead to more cost due to the person providing the quote having to view each section as an individual job. Hence costing more for waste disposal, labour and machine hire if applicable.
Ideally, the job should be done by the same builder because he would be able to offer a better price, the materials as well can go for a discount as there is a big quantity, however if you wish to split the cost for a period of time, then you could get the fence done first.
A lot less stressful to deal with one contractor and often works out cheaper in my opinion its always best to do your boundary first. Thanks

Always less stressful to deal with one contractor and often works out cheaper as stated above but in my opinion its always best to do your boundary first.
I would recommend to get a quote for all of the work needed to be done so you can have it finished all in 1.

Realistically it would be best to get a quote from getting it done separately and all in one then go from there

I would recommend you get a landscaper to quote for all the work required but to set out in stages with time scales between each job. This is easier for the landscaper and also for the customer.

I agree with other tradesman in that you could get a package price for all the work as your only dealing with one contractor then.
its nice to get the fence in first as a boundary so you have something to work to. also if you have 1 contractor doing all the work they can oversee potential problems with the other work such as if theres a reduce dig for a patio for example then perhaps longer posts need to be installed or maybe a gate can be put in where a path goes so it doesnt clash with something else.
I hope that makes sense. its only my opinion
cheers

I would personally go with one company that you chose to quote for all the jobs
Either by yourself our the managing director of the company should draw up a design to the specs you are after so you know how the finished product will look like
it would also be cheaper to by using one company

I would use one company to quote all works as a lot of company's will be able to give a better price and be able to do most of the works. I would dig out then do the fencing to the specs needed.

I only speak for myself as a landscaper, but getting all works done together would definitely be cheaper! I always find drawing up a design helps both the customer and me clarity over the job on hand
Most landscape gardeners will also undertake fencing work and I think it would be a cheaper quotation for you by having all the work to be completed by one company rather than two separate companies in your case. Hope this helps :)

Personally any landscape company usually fences also so would aave u cash having 1 company in rather than 2 and as regards to the fence, I would personally put this up first and then landscape to the boundary you have then made rather than having to re do work from fence posts etc
