My dishwasher and washing machine aren’t draining and are causing a leak. What is advised?
Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.52 PM
We had a new dishwasher installed a couple of days ago, along with a ‘floplast dual sink and wash trap’ to connect both dishwasher and washing machine drainage pipes. Since the installation we have experienced a leak under the sink which is coming from the trap and both dishwasher and washing machine are now not draining properly - if at all. I’ve checked the filters and looked at the waste pipes the best I can but all seems ok. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks in advance!

It’s a possibility the bungs have not been removed from fittings

yes this does sound like the bungs have not been removed, this is a basic mistake but shows you why you should always use a qualified plumber.

Hi
There are a few situations that may be an issue. One is the height of the drainage pipe's! It is far better to have the drainage pipe's connected to a waste pipe that is just above the waste outlet of each machine. Although each machine have pumps to pump the waste water, if the waste pipe is to high, it put's a trmedous strain on the pump. and it may well leave water inside the waste pipe, which will smell over time. This may well cause joints to leak if they are not tight.
