Fitting of unfitted plinths to my utility room

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.52 PM

Hi, I have just had a utility room refit and on completion I noticed there was not a plinth fitted to the left side of the washing machine recess or the left side of the fridge freezer recess and when I questioned it was told this was the industry standard? and he said he hadn’t quoted for that , so I looked back on the quote and it stated 1 x plinth so how was I supposed to know plinth would not be fitted In these two places, could someone tell me is this the industry standard and would I be wrong for with holding payment for the missing plinths.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Def not industry standard. I always return my plinths into appliances spaces. Its never nice to have money withheld, but offer your fitter the opportunity to recify the matter first.

Always return them. It doesn’t take that long.

I wouldn’t say this is wrong. More down to how particular/fussy the kitchen fitter is. Many kitchen suppliers do not supply what is known as a return plinth to fill this void. Decor base ends are usually used either side of the unit which would eliminate this issue. Return plinths can be made from standard plinth but will more than likely need rebating on the top back edge to allow it to fit over the top of the feet supporting the unit. It’s a little extra work that maybe should of been discussed at the time of quoting . I wouldn’t say this is reason to with hold his payment.

I do agree with the previous answer, that said pictures would be better in order to fully understand the situation, wherever there are cabinets, there should be plinths. I believe the "industry standard" is it should look aesthetically correct, and I believe it shouldn't come to withholding money, I think if you have expressed your concerns over how you would like it to look, the contractor should carry out your wishes.

Hi, maybe it would be a good idea in future to allow for end panels. That would sort that problem out. Kind regards
