No heating or hot water after turning boiler off

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.52 PM

Hi, I have a combi boiler which has always run perfectly. I moved out of the flat and turned the boiler off and returned today to clean it to find no hot water or heating. The boiler flags up a red light, I think it's a triangle and circle combined which shows as pump or low pressure issue. The pressure used to be around 1 bar which I put it up to and then up to 2 but it made no difference. I let the tap run for a bit and you can hear the thermostat click when you turn it but the radiators just stay cold as with the water. Is there anything I can do or is there something I'm missing? Would love some help please as the new owner moves in soon! Thankyou in advance.

Hi, It's hard to diagnose without knowing the make and modal of boiler but I would suspect the pump may have possible seized if it's an older appliance that's been off for a couple of weeks. I always recommend that you keep them turned on but adjust the timer to cycle the heating for 15 minutes each day and the the thermostat down a little. You would need a Gas Safe registered engineer to investigate this as the casting of the boiler would need to be opened to access the pump. If it is than you can normally get them running again but may need replacing further down the line.

I think it could be your pump. Which probably has jammed.
