Single brick insulation

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.52 PM

we are looking to buy a bungalow that has been described as "single brick construction". Internally it appears that it has been insulated with plywood on top and them wallpaper. I'm thinking of ripping all this of and applying insulated boards and then replastering - any suggestions

Not seeing the construction, I assume no render finish to keep away the damp. I personally would reccomend a brick plinth to floor, 50mm from external wall, followed by timber frames also 50mm from wall, breathable membrane to external face, with 50-80mm of cellotex (Dependent of stud sizes) then either polythene on top or duplex board. If space an issue then at least use a good quality tanking slurry followed by thermal board dabbed to surface. One has to assume damp issues may well be your worst problem. Personally I would seek a very good contractor, it's not your average DIY project

You can treat the walls with s. B r and put hardwall on the walls and that's a insulation why I say this you don't lose the space in the room and you would with insulation board
