Windows & Door fitting

New upvc window fitted, the inside cill is not flat and the filler where they tidied up their work on the wall has not dried

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.39 PM

The window was fitted in Dec 2011 took out a course of bricks and fitted a slightly bigger window than before. Noticed that the inside window sill was slanting down a s you looked out of the window, also under the window the wall was no longer flat, like a brick was slightly jutting in. On installation the guys said they would deal with the plastering etc. I have now noticed that tha filler ( should be plaster)they have used is not dry, just slightly damp. the window looks sealed from the outside, some of the sealant round it has gone yellowish/ rusty was told this bit was because of bitumen. Sorry for going on. basically is there a reason why the filler/plaster is not dry Thanks for answering I have no idea about the vertical damp or dacatie, can you tell me which part is the face work (the new window) and the block work the bricks?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi do you know if they put vertical damp in when the changed the opening or did they use dacatie you might have damp coming through your face work on to your block work.As for the sill sloping down there no reason for that. Hope this helps

It sounds like you have had a bit of a cowboy job done. Call them back out, try to get the owner to come out. Find out if they are Fensa or Certass registered, Dig out your guarantee and take the matter up with Fensa or Certass if they don't fix everything.

sounds to me like bad workmanship for the sill not to be level. as for the seal, if its silicone it could be a bad batch of them i have previously had a tube last year that never dried, which meant renmoving whats possible and redoing it.
