Hot Water Tank advice please

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.05 PM

I have recently moved into a flat which is electric only. We have a 210 litre Direct Unvented Storage cylinder for our hot water (ThermaQ Evocyl 210 model no TQDIR210) We have two power outlets from the wall, one feeding into the lower part of the cylinder and one in the middle, but neither are a timer just an on off switch. Can I ask what these both are and which one do i need to turn on to ensure we have hot water. Also, should one of these be on a timer? Also, is it more efficient to leave these switched on to heat the water 24/7 and let the thermostat kick in when needed, or should we only turn it on a few hours before we need the water to heat the cold water in there? I am guessing the most efficient/convenient thing would be to some how have a timer fitted?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi Rozzi I know what it's like to have an electric heated water tank with bottom and middle heating elements. It's down to personal choice and on how many people use the water. The top element could be considered a "top up" or just light usage, whereas the bottom one will give you a full tank of hot water Ideally, the bottom one could do with a timer. Analogy If the water is tepid then a few hours on the top heater may perhaps be enough for one hot bath... washing up etc. Regarding efficiently... if you are making a cup of tea do you fill the kettle to the brim and then leave it on all day... boiling away? Hope this helps, Bob

Those cylinder is designed for two electric tariffs, where the bottom element are heat whole cylinder at cheaper night tarrif and top element is just for boost top site of cylinder (you get quicker right hot temperature -if needed) . if you a haven’t got a night tarrif you should have bottom element on timer and depends of your life style set to you. top element use as boost wheen needed
