Saggy carpet/loose
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.26 PM
I live in a new build flat, iv been here about a year now and my lounge carpet has become really saggy and ruffled in the middle like it needs tightening and wasn't fitted properly? Is there anything that can be done to fix this or do I need a new carpet?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

This could definitely point towards poor fitting/not enough tension of the carpet, dependant on a couple of factors. Is the carpet ruffled up along the length and/or width or is the ruffled area just in the middle of the room? The reason is ask is if it’s ruffled along the length or width or both is it could point towards a simple restretch but if the ruffles are confined to certain areas and the carpet around the areas is flat it would point to a process called delamination, this is where the backing of the carpet has separated from the pile and is in most cases not repairable. The only way to know for certain is to pull the carpet back and see if the backing has separated or not, this would become apparent even to the untrained eye and would instantly answer your question.

Agree with above, if this is a manufacturing fault and you are in a new build go down the warranty route

Hi the carpet could just be poor fitting or faulty eg : delaminated etc, maybe just a simple restretch , if this is unsuccessful
Could try double the gripper then restretch should bring some success

Hi Melissa,
I may be down to an number of thing. The conditions which it was fitted i.e to cold, poor fitting, faulty carpet.
I would suggest getting someone to first try re-stretching, at the same time they can check for delamination or any other faults and go from there.
Hope that helps.
