Can't tell if I have a gas line.
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.26 PM
I just bought a house but can't tell if there is a gas connection for the cooker. Where the previous owners cooker was installed there is a pipe sticking up with a metal cap on it and I think that is the gas line but I can't be sure. There are 3 pipes. I know the other two are hot and cold water pipes so the 3rd must be gas. The 3 pipes are running from the boiler about 5 metres away. Could anyone tell if they think it is the gas line? I don't want to order a cooker only for it not to be gas.

there is not sure way of checking this yourself, the best way is to get a gas safe engineer to check it with a u gauge,
if you were to unscrew it and smell for gas you wouldn't know if its leaking afterwards

Hi, the only way of telling would be to employ a gas engineer to isolate the gas and test the cooker gas point. Thanks.

If there Is gas to the property, then by what cooker you want because a new gas run for the cooker can always be added if the line is not in place already.which needs to be installed by a gas safe engineer

Do not undo the cap. There is a potential hazard from an uncontrolled gas escape. Contact Gas Safe and obtain the details of a Gas Safe Engineer who will safely and legally investigate the pipe in question.

If you can route the pipe visually only back to the boiler you will determine wether or not it is a gas supply . Normally on a combi the gas is the middle pipe in 22mm and has a yellow isolation valve .
If in doubt call an engineer
