Coving on irregular ceiling
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.26 PM
Hi! We had a bathroom pipe leak a few years ago and this caused our ceiling in the kitchen to swell. We used a dehumidifier to reduce a lot of the swelling but years on we still have a bit of a bump there. I’d like to put some coving in to conceal the cracks that appear along the tops of the walls and wondered if it’s possible to attach coving to where the bump is? Thank you for your help.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi it all depends how big the bump is you will need to put a piece over the bump to see how much the ceiling is out as you don't really want it to show to much when you final fill you coving .Hope that helps .

all depends on how big the bump is last thing you want is for it to show the effected area more by kicking out

Definelty do as the others have said and check the bump because if you just go ahead and its to much it will throw all your mitred corners out and it won't go up as it should and will look terrible.

I usually do not advise the client to do any work without first seeing the problem, because the client often does not understand the work, and something that may be simple for him but may be more complicated. Anteato, if it has to give an answer I would say that he better take off the swollen piece and replace another one because it may be very damaged and in the future may fall.
