Impact of radiator valve adjustment to plumbing job

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.26 PM

My plumber who has installed a boiler and an unvented cylinder at our single storey bungalow accused me that turning valves of some of radiators messed up the system requiring him another day of work. All radiators have already been fixed and tested with the boiler working, how could turning radiator valves mess up the radiator/boiler system??

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

From my experience it shouldnt do any damage as such, but could cause some of your radiators to be cold. The water will chose the easiest root with less resistance so if you close a valve slightly. Could cause the water to bypass the radiator. Hope this helps

If the heating system has been balanced up correctly shutting off a radiator should not affect the system whatsoever But it shouldn’t be a problem anyway

What your Plumber should have done after installing the boiler is BALANCE the system. Or Adjust the radiators to the temprater of each room that you require. I e: colder in the bedrooms than in the Lounge and hall way. But turning a rad of should not effect the system.

Clearly he or she never balanced the system properly or never did it. So now, when you turn a rad off completely this can mess up the other rads, as its all unbalanced from the get go. Plus, installing new boiler a power flush radiators Is required first, most boiler manufacturers recommends this to help the life long on the boiler and warranty. You dont have to do it due to money but I always make a customer sign on the invoice refused power flush. :)
