Replacing old radiator with new one but nearest i cn find is 11 inches smaller

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.26 PM

Hi everyone, first of all thank you in advance for your help this site is fantastic. OK so stupidly I left my radiator outside when redecorating and ruined it. The radiator was 2100 wide and the nearest one I can find is 1800. (the radiator was ancient) The problem is I have had my laminate floor laid throughout two rooms and I cant get access under the floor easily so what is the best way in your experience to make this gap up. Is it a case of re directing copper pipe and looking having it on show which I think will look like a shoddy job or is there a better way to do things. If the worst comes to the worst and I have to add copper pipe I will cover it with furniture but obviously wanted to ask the pros first!! The original pipework for bigger radiator is still in place hope I covered everything and I look forward to your response/advice.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

try a plumbers merchant, most will do a 2met radiator and the extra can be made up with extensions, you may even find a 2100. screwfix etc tend not to go over 1600 or 1800

You definitely don't want 300mm of pipe showing. Take the radiator back and buy one at 2000mm wide (there are plenty available) and buy two 50mm chrome radiator valve extensions and fit one at each end of the rad.

Not sure how you mean you ruined it, but if your really struggling can you not just rub down the radiator and repaint it with some rad paint get it flushed out and re hang it? Best of luck.

Hi, If you find it difficult to get the bigger radiator it might be worth considering two matching rads side by side. Say two 900 rads which including pipe and valves would span to around 2100. Guy
