Is it worth removing the wallpaper on the walls before we have the ceilings plastered?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.26 PM

We are having our bedroom ceilings plastered and currently we have one room with a feature wall covered in wallpaper but have intentions of removing it. After our plasterer plasters 2 bedroom ceilings we will have about a week to decorate both rooms before we have to move the furniture into those rooms so he can do the final 2 bedrooms. Is it worth removing the wallpaper before he starts on the ceiling so it saves time or would that be a waste.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Yes definitely, the plasterer will get a tight finish to the wall

It would be worth at least removing the top of the wall paper due to having the plaster on and will make it difficult removing the wallpaper as the plaster is usually around 3mm thick and it could possibly strip the plaster off the ceiling. But other than that I would probably leave it if you don't need to, a plaster should not get it up the walls and if they do they should clean it off.

The wallpaper will come loose when it gets wet from the plaster so it’ll need to be removed around the edges anyway. Your best bet is to have the ceiling over boarded and skimmed as well as the walls
