Scaffolding quotes

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.25 PM

Is it common practice to put up scaffolding before giving quote and, if so, wouldn't you quote for the cost of scaffolding first?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi Jayne, no it's not! They should provide a quote for the whole job including the scaffold. Kind regards

Usually you quote for work and price of scaffolding first before anything goes forward, however sometimes you can’t access the area in question without scaffolding to see what the issue is and what to quote for in these rare cases you pay for scaffolding access to the problem area then they quote from there I’d advise getting a proper reputable company in with this cases as you wanna make sure the leak is diagnosed properly. This usually the case when the building is really tall or block of flats or incredibly steep etc

It might be the case that the roof can’t be accessed from either a ladder or out of an access window due to height. If this is the case then how doses a roofer get to check the roof ? And therefore someone has to cover the cost of allowing the roofer access to carry out this process. If it’s just a normal 2 story house then NO as access via ladders and roof ladders should be used. Hope this helps. Regards Lawrence.

Sometimes Scaffolding is required to access roofs that cannot be reached by ladders alone. This should always be quoted for first to show the clients the costs involved. Never agree to any works or scaffolding before costs are agreed.

The only reason scaffolding would go up without the roofer quoting for the works would be that the roofer could not access the roof therefor not quote until the scaffolding is in place . Even then once the scaffolding is in place you the client are under no obligation to use the roofing contractor, and can seek 2-3 other independent quotes before choosing your preferred contractor . Hope that helps .
