Was the electrician I hired legally bound to give me an electrical certificate

I have recently had my shed and summerhouse electrically connected to my house which the electrician had stated that once the payment had been made he would send me the electrical certificate. It is now coming to a few weeks and having been in touch with him on a number of occasions he is still ignoring my requests.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi, you should receive a minor works certificate as a minimum. If it is a new installation then you should receive an installation certificate

Yes. An electrical certificate is a legal document. Sounds also as he should have notified Building Control.

if the electrician connected the shed to an existing circuit from the house then a minor works certificate should be issued, if it was a new circuit it should have an electrical installation certificate. He should if in a new circuit notified to building control also .In either case he should issue a certificate for alterations to an existing installation. Is he on the competent persons scheme , which should be online for you to check his credentials.

Hi the electrician should give you an electrical installation certificate and a building control certificate. You say two weeks have passed without you receiving the paperwork, that's normal for a busy electrician, if it gets past 28 days then you could ask for the paperwork but in my experience, if you keep pestering for paperwork then you might be getting put back to the bottom of the pile. Personally I send the certificate and invoice together as the certificate is part of the job.
