Damp Proofing

Condensation and damp bedding

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.46 PM

Help! We live in a rented bungalow and have problems with the 2 bedrooms extension. Every morning we have condensation on the windows, which I clear with a window vax. I’ve brought a dehumidifier to try and help but it’s still happening. Our bedding is damp in the morning too. I noticed some mould behind the wardrobes whih I cleared with bleach. I don’t dry washing inside and have the windows open in the morning. Heating is on 6-8 and then 5-10 at night, but comes on off drops below 16. Anyone have any ideas if I can do anything else - thanks!

it sound like you have more than a condensation problem, as its rented you can get the local council housing team to have a look for you.which may then point you in the right direction, it is illegal to rent a property that is not fit for purpose. good luck Alex

It's a condensation issue. The new extension will be built to current regs(at the time of build) which means the extension Will effectively be a sealed space and no air circulation. You need to check your trickle vents are open on the windows as this can cause problems like this. You won't get rid of the issue unless you get fresh air circulating at a decent rate. You will find that the air will also smell slightly stale as well.

Get the landlord to have insulated plaster board put on external walls in affected rooms its the warm air hitting cold walls.the insulated plaster board will insulate the walls making them warmer

Ask your landlord to install a PIV fan, that will stop the condensation problem you have.
