Hardwall Coating
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.46 PM
Hi, I have a bricked up fireplace that I plan on applying 2 coats of hardwall onto the brick then skimming the entire breast. I was wondering how if I apply the hardwall then skim a couple of days later is that going to effect the suction of the hardwall having waited a few days? What's the general rule for timing between hardwall coats and skim coats. Thanks

Hi there,
If your using bricks to block up the fireplace best to use bonding as it’s for lower suction walls. Hardwall is more for blocks. Best to Hardwall and skim in the same day. If not possible whenever your ready to skim the wall apply two coats of pva first to stop the suction . Hope this helps.

Ideally float the wall in the morning, skim in the afternoon..

Usually hardwall in the morning then skim after a few hours . If the next day just apply a coat of pva to the hardwall to stop the suction drying the skim too quickly

I would hardwall it, and skim the same day or hard wall it and let it dry and pva it a few times before you skim

I personally would set up at the latter part of the day, everything in place and ready to go.
Then hard wall first thing in the morning allowing sufficient time because due to variants such as time of year, humidity hot and cold curing time will be affected, also area covered 9/10 times you can skim same day but if not don't panic a couple of good thick coats of pva the next day will stop any suction then skim.
