Sewage out of downpipe

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.28 PM

We had an incident yesterday where sewage was coming out of our downpipe and onto our driveway. We live over a public sewer and so called Southern Water out. The man cleared all our drains but said he thinks it is to do with our drains being connected incorrectly as sewage shouldn't be coming out of the downpipe (and not the public sewer being the issue). Now the drains are clear the sewage is now going into the sewer as it should be. He recommended that we use full flushes when we use the toilet as our drains had become blocked from economy flushes. Any thoughts on this? Does this sound right? And what could we do about it?

Hello Lisa. Thanks for the MyBuilder question. I sometimes recommend using a full flush when I think it's going to help with discharge flow. It's worth remembering that sink, washing machine and bath water also use the same pipe (usually) so there is nearly always a good amount of water pushing everything along... if you know what I mean. Soil moves and pipes in the soil move... and that can cause disruption to flow. Also, don't use throwaway wipes. If it's blocking on a regular basis then it's time for a drain camera to have a look... pin point the snag and get it fixed. Check who owns the drain... it may not be you. Good luck, Bob.

you should get a qualified plumber to look at this, you obviously have problems with your drainage system,it should work on every flush.
