Does converting garage in a link detached house reduce value?
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.28 PM
I am planning a rear extension which includes converting a portion of link detached garage. My house is a detached house in a cul de-sac and the garage is link detached to a next door which is a semi detached house. Will converting a portion of my garage reduce value of the property as: 1. Being a 4 bed house, families look for a garage when buying 2. Do buyers see a linked detached as less desirable if garage is converted as then the living space shares a wall with the garage next door?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

A option to consider is keep say a third of the garage for bikes golf clubs etc
Most people that have a garage very rarely park there car in it
As for affecting the house price I’d suggest asking a local estate agent

Do you have a drive if yes then it will not.
As 4cs suggested use 2/3 rds and keep the front of the garage for bikes etc

If its a single garage, then its not much good for a car.
As your are only suggesting to covert a portion of the garage, then you will still have some storage.
It will generally add value to extend, but does depend on location and not exceeding maximum area value.
Check prices online, right move etc.

Converting the Link garage would add value to a property , but keep a portion for storage if short on storage . Also the garage wall can be soundproofed / Fire proofed . If no driveway then do not convert .
