Laying carpet on hardwood floor

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.28 PM

Hi Can you lay carpet on existing hardwood flooring or should it be taken up first, which would be a nightmare?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

As long as the fooring isnt broken or loose and still level there should be no problem.

You can but I would say take it up in case it blows then it’s going to cost you more money in the long run my opinion I would take it all up

Hi there I know the feeling, so the existing floor it's an excellent subsurface therefore just need to be clean and free from loose debris and yes do use a fairly good underlay

If you make sure the floor is COMPLETELY clean. Underlay with a nice 9mm thick underlay. Make sure the underlay is clear and lay the carpet straight over for a successful finish. But the best way is to always make sure the underlay and plywood floor are clear so it causes no bumps in the carpet
