Regel 5 or 6 fuseboard needs changing that operates my gates.

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.28 PM

Hi the fuseboard that operates electrical gates has blown I think? Causing the Breakers to keep tripping. The Gates have been fine for years , what has caused this ? What is the best way to sort this please?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

The equipment connected to the trips causes them to trip. Changing the board will make no difference. Needs to be tested out to locate the fault and rectify.

This sounds like it could be water has got into the outside gate electrics causing it to short out or trip the MCB. If it’s just that one item in the board that’s tripping it can be left isolated without effecting anything else and will need an electrician to come and investigate and test further

I would suspect there is a short to earth causing it to break. I would suggest carry out a insulation resistance test.

Hi It’s a Rigel control board/panel no Regel fusebord . If it’s tripping when you try to operate the gate have a look at the photocell, water could go inside. If it's the RCD tripping there may be a fault. Water in it or some other problem like that. If it's the MCB, you need to do some investigating to see why it's being exceeded. What size is it? Type B or C? Do the motors have ratings (W's) written on them? Or a model number so you get hold of a datasheet, which may have a startup current on it. Do you know what cable size goes out to the gates? Is there anything else on the circuit? Garden lights? Is there anything impeding the free movement of the gates? Need greasing? Higher load on the motor will increase the duration of the startup current and may be tripping a standard MCB.

Hi As ARUSU ELECTRICAL says its not a fuse board, the last one I got called out to had a small worm lying across a live and neutral joint that had burnt the board out. The solution was to replace the insides and all was good again, the problem is definitely an imbalance caused by a fault in the gate controls.
