Strip & paint of front door?

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.52 PM

And how long long would it take? There are two glass panels in the door, which is a victorian design.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Good morning , There are a few variables but as a rule will be : 1.First day : strip / return to bare wood and fill etc . If you are lucky you will have time to undercoat / prime using one coat . 2. Second day : (If you have primed it in the first day ) than it will have to be sanded , (and if needed fill where required ) apply a second coat of undercoat / primer . If this dries in time you can then sand and apply the first coat of your finish coat ( make sure the paint you will be using is a good quality exterior paint ). 3. Third day : apply a second and final finish coat . Kind regards Alexandra

There are 2 ways to do it and both depend on your budget and door condition. More expensive would be stripping existing paint using heat gun to bear wood, smoothing with light sanding and than priming, 2x undercoating and applying final coat 2x or 1x if gloss. Less expensive would be good sanding of existing layer of paint and than undercoating 2x than and applying 2x final coat or 1x coat if gloss. Light sanding in between coats would add to durability of painting work. Duration: 1 day or few hours if using water base paints and 2 days if oil base.

If you are wanting to stain the door, this may take a number of applications of a paint stripper dependent on how old or numbers of layers of paint, the paint stripper needs time to soak, min two days prep and a day to apply finish coats If you are just looking to repaint door with a colour two days would be the time needed
