Dot and dab external walls
Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.52 PM
I've recently had a property I own stripped back to brick and then all walls including external which is solid 3 course brick dot and dabbed. Except for bathroom which has been rendered. The external walls of sitting rooms and kitchen have had a dampproof membrane attached 1 meter up then pva applied then dot and dabbed. External Bedroom walls have been pva then dot and dabbed all walls were done with standard board to my knowledge. Should I have any concerns over this?

If done correctly with the right mix ratios with the rendering and plenty of dabs behind the Plaster boarding there shouldn't be any problems but if it fails call them back to come and fix it! I wouldn't worry if there is no signs of it failing/cracking or boards coming loose. Hope this puts you at ease slightly :)

I think if you are dabbing walls make sure all walls are sound and free of damp the membrane system should be ok but normally from floor to ceiling and batterned and boarded rather dot and dabbed but as the last answer any problems call then back as the guarantees should be in place

Firstly the external wall should have been sbr cement primed then scratch coated then dot and dabed only other way is membrane batons and border using proper fixings base coated and meshed for the finish coat

Personally with all the external walls I render all the walls then fix a membrane to walls then use top hats (metal studs)jabalight insulation if the walls are solid there is always a chance of damp so I use moisture boards the only walls I dot and dab are the internals make sure that the bottom and tops have a solid addisive line not a few dabs same with any sockets, people take dot and dab to literal and don't use enough wall adhesive. Always PVA walls before application of boards. Hope this helps. Thanks Jason
