Bricklaying & Repointing

Repointing the front of my house

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.52 PM

Hi i want to repoint the front of my house, which was built in 1904 so i assume it is lime mortar. Do i have to repoint with lime mortar or can i use sand and cement??? I know lime mortar makes it breathable but the in side walls have been plastered with gypsum. So will make a difference if i use lime mortar???

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Sand and cement repoint is a disaster on lime mortar. Lime mortar allow your wall to breath and there will be damp everywhere by using sand and cement repointing. Please watch out if someone want to use sand and cement repoint on lime mortar.
