two out of my three radiators only get hot at one end

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.52 PM

hello geniuses / genii i've just moved into a very small studio apartment there are two large radiators in the main room, one below each window, and a smaller radiator in the loo one of the main room radiators works perfectly, but the other two only get hot at the end which has the control knob on it i've read lots of Q&As on the net already and i haven't found anyone having this problem: the heat extends sideways along the radiator for about 10cms and then it's stone cold after that. the top and the bottom of the small section that IS hot are a consistent temperature - ie. this isn't a question of the top being cold cos it's full of air and the bottom being warm because it's where the water is what to do? many thanks ben

Hi Ben. Okay, if there was even a bit of circulation in each "cold" rad it would eventually fill the whole rad but in this case it's not happening. So it is likely one of the valves on each rad is shut off (the manual lock shield) ... it's warming because some heat is being transferred from the hot pipes that are nearby and obviously just making it past the open control knob. Hope this helps. Bob.

You need to check that both valves on radiators are fully open Then bleed the radiators to make sure there is no air Also undo the head on the thermostatic rad valve to make sure the pin maybe stuck down which will not allow water to flow into rad This will stop the circulation in order to make a circuit so the rad will not get hot

If it's not the valves and air problem i would call plumber for cleaning of the whole system with pump.

You have a circulation issue. Therefore the hot central heating water is not passing through the radiator. So either the radiator valves are closed or blocked. Manually try to open ( unscrew anti clockwise) or call an engineer.
