Noisy Extractor Fan

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.52 PM

I'm having some issues with the extractor fan in my bathroom, but I'm unsure if this is something simple I can fix myself or if it requires an electrician to refit it. The fan sits on the ceiling and is linked into the same circuit as the lights, the bathroom has no internal windows so I haven't tried switching the circuit off and opening the fan yet. It's hanging slightly loose from the ceiling and often makes a really loud noise after it's been on for longer than 5 minutes, if you hold the fan and push it up the noise does stop so I don't think there's anything wrong with the fan itself - it just needs to be fit correctly. I don't know how old it is but I can see there's dust that could be cleared out. Is it usually a case of making sure all the screws inside are tightened properly or would this require more work? the fan is around 1or 2 cm loose from the ceiling I'd say

Just needs isolating, hope you have a fan isolator as it’s a timer fan I’m assuming? taking out and cleaning out & re-fixing properly. If you are not comfortable doing this then a decent handy person could manage this tbh.

The fan blades are probably touching the ducting that’s all. Isolate the lights at the fuseboard take the cover off, clean it, and screw it back up. Check the blades spin freely with your fingers and then put the lid on. Simple DIY

Sound like the bearings have gone in the fan and will require a new fan. Call an Electrician to advise you and fix the issue.

Hi Looks like the extractor fan it’s lose and it’s vibrating , or the blades are damaged. You need a qualified electrician / competent person to investigate the issue with the extractor fan .
