Can i turn off my external water valve with severn trent ?

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.51 PM

Hello my stopcock is seized in my house and needs to replace it, obviously, if i take it off at water coming out at 80 lb per square inch il have more than enough to boil the kettle. Can I isolate my water outside in the street? (i share with one other property, with their consent obviously) Does the waterboard severn trent let you operate it or do they require one of their engineers to visit the street just to turn a valve? thank you!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

There is usually a metal lid by the fron or back of your house maybe on the pavement, which u can open up and it has another stopcock in it. The lid i have outside my front garden is about 15cm x 15cm

Hi, You Can do this yourself but just make sure the connection is the one to your house first, as not All the houses on the street are connected to an external stop tap, most are but worth noting and testing before doing any work.
