Damp on walls in bedroom
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.05 PM
I had some external cladding fitted and now have damp on bedroom walls. The damp is spreading, the bedroom is South facing and takes the brunt of the weather. Could it be the cladding, we have had new guttering etc.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi, I think this could be caused by the holes drilled out for wall plugs and screws, if you have had new gutting next time it rains take a look see if you have any over fills or leaks from new gutting, to solve the problem if it's the cladding causing it, it would need to be taken off and a waterproof sheet place underneath the cladding and seal with a hardwaring waterproof sealant. Seal any areas water may be getting in.

Depends if the claddi g was put on to reduce damp? which it would not and if it was installed properly probable origin was lack of ventilation

Damp Investigations

I’m getting five calls a day about sudden damp problems , it’s actually the weather, this happened about four years ago too ; it’s called hygroscopic dampness which means ‘out of the air’.
Get a digital thermal hygrometer off the Internet for about £12 , this will tell you how moisture laden your interior air is , it should be about 55% . Ventilation will solve this problem .
