Radiator not working

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.04 PM

Hi, looking for a bit of advice and help....I recently had three new radiators fitted my a local company, loads of great reviews etc, but had to have him back as all three radiators were dripping/weeping, which he did rectify. But now since we have been putting the heating on, one of the radiators is not getting warm, all others are fine and get really hot, but this one is just very Luke warm at the top and cold at the bottom, and the pipe where the thermostat is, just gets Luke warm too and the pipe on the other side is cold? The old radiator worked fine and we just replaced for cosmetic reason and to update them, and the yearly service was done about two weeks before he came out, and was all fine. I have messaged him, to explain what the radiator is doing/not doing etc, waited four days and no reply, so messaged again tonight, and asked politely can you let me know when you can pop round to rectify the radiator, he read it straight away, but still no reply...! Any advice as to where I stand with this please? Thank you Thank you both for your replies, not sure how I reply to your individual answers! I appreciate your time! Thanks everyone for your replies and help 😀

first check trv is working, take of head push down pin a couple of times ,put head back on,bleed rad just to be sure, was system flushed before fitting rads ?,it may be sludge in trv, inside is about 8 to 10mm and any disturbed sludge may have blocked it,you may need to balance system, which your plumber should have done after installation, write to him tell him you are not happy with his lack of response,if he is a plumber with a good reputation he will not wont to lose it.

Probable cause would be a air lock, recommend you bleed every single radiator of air using a key whilst the boiler is off, as you have not stated that it may be a pressurised system you will have to keep an eye on the pressure gauge and keep re-filling the system accordingly to 1 bar then proceed to turn all of the radiator's off except for the one in question and see if it starts to respond, if it does then turn all of the other radiators back on noting the position of the valve so it is in the same position! This is important as your installer should of balanced the heating system when the work was completed! See Youtube link below for additional help: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6slCr3Vdv1g

Take the Head off the TRV, put pliers on Pin, carefully pull the Pin out first then push in, pull the Pin out gently give the Vavle a sharp tap, check the heat in the pipe, make sure Central Heating is on before doing it. Hooe this helps.

Sounds most likely to be trapped air in the pipeline going to the cold radiator. Opening the air key valve to bleed air doesn't always work as the hole for the air to come out is tiny. Your plumber will need a half inch adapter to fit the air bleed plug and connect it to a hose. Run the hose outside. Close the radiator valves on both sides and remove the air bleed valve. Connect the hose and half inch adapter to the thread on the radiator where you have removed the air bleed valve. Open the flow radiator valve and it should push anything trapped out the hose. You can also open the fill key at the boiler and use the mains water to flush it out if it doesn't dislodge quickly. Nine times out of ten this works in around 10 seconds.
