Should I Replace TRVs?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.25 PM

Hi I've noticed that my radiators are the same temperature regardless of the number setting on the TRV - even really hot on the * setting and still heating up on the 0 setting. From guidance I've read, I unscrewed just the TRV head to see if the TRV body's pin moves freely. They all do, so does that mean it's actually just the TRV heads that needs replacing? Do heads generally fail? If so, are TRV heads universal? Thanks

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

It is unlikely that all your trvs be failing at the same time_ especially when you turn them off to 0 and the rads keep working. It either indicates that someone has changed all the trv heads with a different type and the internal mechanism of the trv heads do not control the pin on the trv body. They are not universal.

I agree with P&L Plumbing. However, if you want really want granular control of the temperatures in each room, digital TRVs are the next logical step forward. There are many companies and I like Evotherm and Tado. I hope this helps. Jericos
