damage done to property after my neighbours had new guttering put in

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.25 PM

my deceased mum is the middle town house and was constructed by the local council, which my parents went on to buy. all three homes had concrete guttering with the downspouts either end of all the properties, the house on the left first had their guttering replaced by the council about 2 years ago, I have recently found out they had capped the end off on the left hand side but the water was still able to run off, Now the house on the right side has had their guttering replaced and they too have capped the end so the water can not escape so has caused an ingress of water into the property, I suppose my question is what can I do,the insurance say they wont pay out because the house has been empty mum did live on her own until her death thankyou.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Answer is probably pay some money and sort your guttering out like the neighbours had too instead of looking on here for someone to blame so you get it for free!

It's not fair that someone is cap either end of your guttering and left you without a downpipe but if you're in that situation is probably better just to pay someone and get it sorted

What you need to do is have a out let fitted to your property. Or join on to next door.. There will be a a cost to this work.. Hope this helps.. Joe

You will need an outlet and down pipe fitted to the appropriate drainage area

The first thing to do would be to get someone to go up there to take a look at what's happening. Any competent roof liner would be able to tell you exactly what the problem is, and the best course of action to take. I hope this helps.

I would definitely recomend getting it renewed as both sides have probably had a different form off guttering on if not your only other solution is to get your own downpipe put in and have a soakaway installed
