New kitchen being installed and the units are in before skimming the full room, is this normal?
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.25 PM
New kitchen being put in, the frame of the new units on the floor are in and the plastering / skimming is set to be done next. Behind these units there is a gap which has been sprayed with PVA but looks horrid with patches of white mould. Should I be concerned about this as we were under the impression the room was to be fully plastered.

I would always recommend that the room is plastered before any kitchen units are fitted.

I would want it all plastered then the units put in but that may not be what was quoted for. No real cause for concern but I would try and clear that white mold before it gets sealed in.

If the wall is solid and damp free there's no need for plastering it's simply cosmeticd

Generally I would have the room plastered before installing the kitchen, but I have had to fit the base units first so not to delay the job as the plasterer had overrun on his previous job. PVA on the walls is a common practice to allow the plaster to bond better with the wall/old plaster. The white mould could just be moisture from the PVA water mix, this should disappear once the room has been plastered and dried.
