Any way to have a socket in a bathroom?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.25 PM

Hi, Coming from another country I find it very complicated not having a socket where I can plug for example a blow dryer in the bathroom. Don't want to break any kind of regulations! Is it possible to install a plug (even if it's inside a cabinet?, even if it's one designed for outdoor usage?) in a bathroom? Thanks, Duarte

Socket outlets in bathrooms must be at least 3 metres away from bath tub or shower cubicle. Not a diy job though it has to be installed correctly also.

Not a great idea. Whilst installing in a cupboard could technically comply with regs I wouldn’t be happy putting one in. It’s not that much different to fitting one just outside the door to the bathroom but that would comply and an electrician has to be compliant with regs and part p to stay out of trouble. Don’t do this yourself and ensure whoever does the work issues a certificate and notifies building control if necessary

I would recommend if any type of installation was carried out in the bathroom it was installed outside the bathroom zones, also an IP rated socket fitted, and it was RCD protected. Either from the Consumer Unit, or an rcd socket.

Fitting extra socket just by bathroom door will comply with regs and should hopefully solve your problem too
