REPLACING AN INDIRECT COMBINATION CYLINDER WITH ONE INNER COIL WITH CYLINDER HAS 2 INNER COILS.

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.25 PM

I am looking to replace my leaking combination hot water cylinder (FORTIC) and have sourced a replacement which has an extra coil inside apparently for a solar connection. My original tank has just the one coil which is connected via an oil fired boiler. Can the extra (solar) inlet / outlets be simply be blanked off as I`ll only require the use of one coil?. I`m purchasing the replacement as a secondhand unit as I only require a tank to work for a few months before I move into my self build bungalow on my own plot. Thank you to all who reply.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

the simple answer is Yes, you can cap the solar coil off and just use the boiler coil, be sure thou that you do, cap off the correct one as the materials used to make each coil can slightly differ for the different liquids used in solar to a standard boiler, I wouldn’t recommend the install of a secondhand unit thou, and be sure it comes with all the appropriate valves (T+P, grouping valve, expansion relief and expansion vessel
