Bathroom Fitting

What is required to split bathroom, and add ensuite to master bedroom

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.45 PM

We have a large bathroom which is next to our master bathroom, we'd like to knock a door through the bedroom and then split the existing bathroom in two to create an ensuite. I'm not sure what would be required by builders/fitters to create a quote and I'm wondering if this is the type of job a single company could do or if we'd need to speak with multiple companies to create plans and do different bits of work (moving radiator, knocking through wall, adding door, adding partition wall and fittings two new bathrooms).

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Best bet would be a general builder as there may be some structural work. A good builder will be able to package that up. Something I did a lot of.

Most General Builders like ourselves would undertake all this so you only have to deal with one contractor., Who will then in turn arrange related trades to carry out related individual works.

The best option is to find a company that provides full service. I mean, they work with their architect and engineer. Then you have solutions and suggestions right away and you don't have to get very involved in paperwork because they are able to do it for you. There are a lot of such companies on the market, so you won't have a problem with that.

If you want to knock a doorway into a way. You have to cut a big hole. If it's a structural wall. You will need to put a lintel above it and this is simple but requires someone who has the right experience. If it's a stud wall you'll have to build a doorway from timber. To partion the bathroom into two requires rearranging the plumbing. With planning and foresight this idea can be realised. Space is a premium and will factor in to the design. With ripping out bathrooms. Chopping walls. And replumbing. Tiling. Its becomes quite a lot of work to get things to the right standard of finish. It's very important to plan ahead where the units and accessories will go. So you can build batons into the wall structure that these things will be mounted to. For strength. For instance a toilet roll holder will not survive the test of time if it's only mounted to plasterboard. Ideally a lump of wood behind the plasterboard that you can screw to. Little details like this will add to your longterm satisfaction.
