Dealing with a wet wall post roof repair.
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.45 PM
I’ve had a leak from the roof, that has now been fixed. It must have leaked for a while before it came through the wall recently. How long do I let the water ingress dry before repainting it as no major damage to the plaster or wallpaper by the looks of it.Any products you would recommended for the small damp developed? Thank you.

Hi , Providing that the leak has in fact been fixed and there is no longer and moisture penetrating into the building at the place in question , and like you said there is no damage to the plaster, there isn't anything to worry about , simply clean any mould etc with sugar soap and re paste the wall paper back on (if required). It should dry out pretty quickly, no more more 2 weeks probably quicker. going off the information that you have supplied. I hope this helps. Thanks

I would suggest placing a dehumidifier close to the area to draw out as much excess moisture as possible before re papering the area.

I wouldn't say I disagree but in my experience wet plaster, when it dries out reacts with wall paper, chop off the water affected area and have it replastered using thistle dri coat (this is an excellent plaster for this sort of work) allow to dry for approximately 2 weeks, remember new plaster needs to be prepared before wallpapering usually applying a coat of size, but a good decorator will give advice on this
