Skirting and beading (currently different colours)
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.27 PM
We have recently had new laminate flooring laid (chestnut colour), with white beading but the beading is a different colour to the off white skirting boards. What is the best approach to ensuring the beading and skirtings are the same colour?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Paint them with same paint, make sure beading not plastic, or get suitable pvc primer like zinsser blue or similar

I’m guessing beading has been used as the new laminate flooring does not run underneath the skirting boards......which it should really then you can avoid using beading at all.
However as beading has been used and depending on beading is veneered mdf or timber etc, I would personally.....
1: Change/ renew the beading to suit the colour of the skirting or match the beading to the same colour as the new floor.
2:Repaint the beading to suit the colour of the skirting/ using appropriate primers and paint.
3:Repaint the beading and skirtings/ door frames etc in the room to give a new fresh look, with appropriate undercoat and white fresh gloss.
Agin I’m only guessing but are the skirting boards an ‘off white’ colour because they haven’t been redecorated for a while???

You want to mask off the beading precisely with say frogtape or tessa low tack blue tape and paint the skirting with good thicker undercoat and then paint it x2 with a brilliant white eggshell topcoat.
