Told I can’t have spotlights / wall lights

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.27 PM

Hi, I’d like to upload a picture of my bathroom but I don’t know how to do so. It’s all tiled and I don’t want to rip it but but I’d like some wall lights and a few spotlights as well as am overhead light. I’ve been told by two builders it’s not possible as there’s only a central light (and presumably because there is only a tiny loft above the bathroom and two walls are exterior-facing). Is there really nothing I can do? EDIT: The tiles go from floor to ceiling and then I have a curved ceiling - not sure if that’s it’s not possible. So frustrating I can’t attach a picture. EDIT: they were electricians, not builders, sorry for the typo. One suggested ‘chasing’ to the wall lights but said it would still require removing tiles and that they wouldn’t recommend it l.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi, To get power to each light you will need a power/cable. You don’t need to rip out the tiling you just have to get creative! The cable for the wall light for example can be hidden behind a decorative piece of tiling going around the room or make a feature/boarder around the room to hide the cable. I have done this many times, your not alone and there is always a solution Hope this helps Chris

Builders are not electricians usually. Get an electrician in as there will be a solution.

If the room is fully tiled theirs only one way you could do it but it would look very industrial it would be to run stainless steel 20mm conduit across the ceiling and then to put a on the roof T box in a spilt it down to each wall light with saddles 600 to 300 on conduit to 💡 the wall lights. But the lights in the centre depending on where It would be would have to have an ip rating and also the wall lights would have to be depending on location. If their space above the ceiling you could attempt, what we call to fishing for the cables across the ceiling to where you want the wall lights and spot lights. and then run stainless steel conduit down to the lights on the wall With out seeing it I’m only making a good attempt at giving you a solution.
