Damp Proofing

Redecorating of living room where the damp proffing was carried out

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.27 PM

Hello, I previously asked about this and was told different responses so I went back to the trader who did the job and he provided me with some answers to questions you asked me. He said that: they used dry zone chemical damp proofing cream, plaster; first coat was a waterproof salt retardant tanking render, with 2 further coats of multi finish. So there has been 3 coat system. And the redecorating time was anytime between 6 weeks to nine months. So having waited 2 months and with the above information now available I am wondering when to redecorate please. Second question is that the small radiator which was removed for the work and refitted does not work now- any suggestions please. The contractor said if it doesn't turn on and heat up then I will need to get an engineer out? The company is very far so not easy for them to come out just for this small job. Thank you. Kindest regards N Sadhoo

You can paint rendered walls after 6 weeks however to paper it is recommended up to 6 months as this prevents the wall from breathing with regards the radiator it needs drained and re bled hope this helps

Time frame to carry out redecoration is fine, gas safe engineer required to get Rad up and running depending on what type of system they may have to drain it all down , refill and bled the whole system

The same as above. As long as the valves on the rad have been opened obviously.

The render can take as long as 18months to completely dry depending upon site conditions and the decor well, paint can be applied but contract Matt paint only and no products containing acrylic or polymers as these tend to seal in the moisture trapping it but the wall does need to be allowed to breathe a good indicator of dryness is if the hygroscopic salts which come to the surface of the plaster during drying period are brushed away and eventually stop forming again it should be good to carry out full decoration. A plumber needs to be engaged to rectify radiator issue. Tel
