Plinth problems!

We had a kitchen fitted and had vinyl laid afterwards. The plinths were difficult to get off and once the floor was screed and vinyl laid we can't get the plinth back on. Should the plinth have been cut to allow for flooring rather than have been fitted touching the rough floor before flooring put in?

Hi Jeanie, Yes the plinth should have been removed, then floor fitted so it finishes behind the finish line of the plinth. Then the plinth re-fitted, cutting the plinth down to fit accordingly. Cheers Ewan

Hello, the plinth will need to be trimmed to fit, normally leaving a 5mm gap to the unit to allow easy removal. Generally fitters set the legs on the units to allow for the type of flooring to be laid. But floors do run out of level so this could be the reason if fitting in other areas. Regards Tim

The legs on the units should off been wound up higher by 12mm to allow for the screed and vinyl flooring

Ideally the the flooring would have been laid prior to the plinth being fitted. To cut the plinth before screed or vinyl is laid would be difficult because you would need a very accurate idea of thickness of both materials.

Oh no. Personally, I fit the plinth with allowance for whatever is being laid. Then return toscribe the plinths to suir the new floor. Good Practice and a much better finish.
