Insulation

Soundproofing upstairs neighbours floor (my ceiling!)

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.27 PM

Hi there, I've ripped out my old kitchen ceiling (old layer of lathe and plaster) and am now looking for something denser than standard Rockwool or fiber glass to fill the six-inch space between the joists (will be using 2 layers of knauf acoustic boards on top) Does anyone have any suggestions? Would also be interested in any way to directly add mass to my upstairs neighbours timber floorboards from below (between the joists) to try to reduce impact/vibration I've already installed chipboard+foam acoustic boards under the neighbours underlay, I'm now looking at what can be done from my side.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi I the acoustic insulation between the joist voids will help, but sound will generally travel through timber stud work or floor joist. It may help some if you are able to fit rubber strips along the underside of the joist prior to refitting plaster / insulation board! Hope this helps You can blame the noise on ever popular laminate!!! 😏

Hi I would recommend the CasoLine MF ceiling system. This will reduce contact with the joists, reducing any travel of sound from the above floor.
