3-way valve & non-return vvalves

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.27 PM

I have a heating system composed of a gas boiler, one circuit or loop for radiators and one for a hot water tank. A three-way valve is used to divert the flow from one circuit to the other. My question is whether non-return valves are necessary on these two circuits. My installer has positioned them on the return pipes for each circuit but when one circuit is open the other is necessarily closed as dictated by the thee-way valve so I don´t see the need for non-return valves. Thank you

Thrre port valve either heating or hot water. If mid position type does both. Valve would be positioned on flow from boiler, works either way on demand of hot water from cylinder stat or room temperature thermostat. The timed circuit would be working when theres as demand until satisfied. Circuit is isolated through three port. Normally resting priorities to the hot water circuit. Hope this helps Thanks pd

Non return are not needed as there are only one pump on the system If there were 2 pumps non returns prevent them pumping against each other the 3 port valve is adequate as long as they are working properly.
