Is it ok to have gaps in loft insulation?

We are having a former loft conversion, the builder has left about a 400mm gap in the loft insulation between roof and plasterboard. This is the gap between flat roof and eaves incline. Is this the norm? I asked him about it and he said yes but there have been a few issues and I’m losing confidence. We want to use this room as a bedroom and don’t want to worry about it being cold. I’d really appreciate some advice. Thanks

hi, personally I would leave a much smaller gap to allow for ventilation but as long as there is ventilation in the roof space to allow for air circulation and avoid any build of moisture this way you have peace of mind about a cold room and the roof space is well ventilated at the same time.

Hi, The best option and recommendation is to insulate the void with as much Celotex insulation as possible, But making sure you leave a minimum of 25mm air gap for the roof space to breath between the insulation and the felt of the roof, On new builds we have installed as much as 300mm celotex insulation but you MUST leave a min 25mm gap.. hope this helps.
