Gas Works

Logic combi 30 boiler l2 fault code still not working after suggested repair

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.51 PM

I would very much appreciate some advice as I'm at a bit of a loss of what to do. Last week my logic combi boiler stopped working, showing an l2 fault code. I contacted a gas engineer who said that it needed 3 parts, an ignitor unit, a detection electrode and an ignition electrode. The quote for the job was £180, £90 of this was the parts used. Anyway they came last night, fitted the above parts and the boiler still won't work. They've cleaned the condensate pipe and replaced the above parts. He said that it can't be the gas valve because it's showing 21 millibars of gas and the boiler requires a minimum of 18 (as per the ideal boilers guide). Anyway they tried to charge me but I refused to pay because the boiler still isn't fixed. The engineer was insisting that it can't be the gas valve but the guide suggests replacing it anyway. The engineers assistant (who is a plumber not a gas engineer) suggested I replace the whole boiler! The boiler is 6 years old so not something I want to have to start replacing just yet. After replacing the parts the boiler does fire up and provide hot water for 20 seconds before it stopped again. The electricity to the boiler is adequate as that was also checked. Any help or advice as to what the issue could be would really help. Thank you.

To investigation L2 issue on Logic boiler 1. Disconnect the white plastic pipe under your boiler if there is a lot of water come out then you have got a blocking condensation pipe. This is 9/10 is L2 2. Check a drop of gas pressure at the inlet of gas valve when the boiler trying to fire up. If pressure drop then this is not a gas valve issue. (Drop must not be less than 16mb on 30KW) 2A. If the The gas valve inlet pressure dropped but less 16mb then you have gas pressure issue at the meter or your gas pipe is not big enough for the boiler. 2B. If gas valve inlet pressure dropped but still more than 16mb then you will need a spark generator part no. 175593 3. If your gas pressure is not dropping this can be gas valve or PCB Check if you have 240v from PCB to gas valve with multimeter. 3A. If you got 220-240v from PCB to gas valve then You will need a new gas valve 3B. If you don’t have 220-240V from PCB to gas valve then you will need a new PCB This test should be carried out by competent person.

I would check the flue seals and flue sensor operation Hopefully no one has fiddled with the settings on your gas valve as it comes pre set

There may well be sufficient gas entering the gas valve but they must measure if there's any drop in pressure when the boiler try's to fire. its a very simple test to insure the gas valve is actually opening. I'am glad you refused to pay, I hear so many stories of customers handing over cash and are still left with a broken boiler.

With out looking at boiler and doing test it’s hard say it could be flow turbine the gas valve if they’ve changed the parts That they say they have changed Sometimes a faulty PCB can give you wrong error codes as well.
