Should my brand new flat roof have a lip?
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.04 PM
Hello, I have recently had a flat membrane roof fitted and today the fascia boards have been affixed. There is an overhang of the roof which which means I can see the timber underneath.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Yes you have to have a drip in order to reach the gutter

No timber should be seen on any flat roof system there should be a overhang to form a drip on to allow water to go into the gutter but no timber should be seen on a plastic fascia job

If you don't have a lip, the water will run behind the guttering down the facias, rather than in the guttering.

Agree with the overhang for the water run-off but unless it’s the wooden facia board you’re seeing (is the Facia wood or uPVC by the way???) then no timber should be seen. A picture would be helpful!
