Damp Proofing

What is my best option for damp proofing, can it be done with old damp proofing tubes in place?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.04 PM

I live in a terraced house built around 1900 and I have rising damp. The house has been treated for damp twice since 1975, first with an injected chemical treatment and later with ceramic tubes inserted into the walls that were supposed to let the moisture evaporate (Wallguard). However the damp has now come through again, and the areas around the chimney breasts are especially bad. I think it requires an injected chemical damp course again, but would that be effective with the ceramic tubes still in place? What would be the best way of sorting out my damp long term? I also need a rewire and other work, so cost is a consideration.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I would 100% recommend getting a damp surveyor in to have look. Without looking it is hard to say( as stated above ) where the problem lies, however around fireplaces do suffer from damp being attracted to them due to them often being colder than the rest of the room.is the fireplace in use, if so make sure they have cowls on if not get them capped. There is alot of water ingress from an open chimley .
